Connecting Google Calendar
The connection process uses Google's secure OAuth 2.0 flow:
- Open the Convo dashboard (click menu bar icon)
- Click Settings in the left sidebar
- Navigate to My Account section
- Find Google Workspace with the calendar icon
- Click the Connect button
- Your browser opens to Google's authorization page
- Sign in with your Google account (if not already signed in)
- Review the permissions:
- View events on all your calendars (read-only)
- No ability to create, edit, or delete events
- Click Allow to grant access
- Google redirects back to Convo automatically
- Connection complete—your calendar events appear in Dashboard
Read-only access: Convo only reads your calendar events. It cannot create, modify, or delete events. Your calendar data remains secure and unmodified.
What Convo Can Access
Event Information
Convo reads these details from your calendar events:
- Event title
- Start and end times
- Event description
- Location or meeting URL
- Attendee list (email addresses)
- Organizer information
- Google Calendar link
Calendar Scope
Convo accesses your primary Google Calendar. If you have multiple calendars (work, personal, shared), only events from your main calendar are synced.
Time Range
Convo fetches upcoming events starting from the current time. Past events are not synced. The default display shows the next 10 upcoming events.
Calendar Features in Convo
1. Dashboard Event Display
When connected, your Dashboard shows upcoming calendar events with:
- Color-coded urgency:
- Red - Meeting starts in less than 15 minutes
- Orange - Meeting starts in less than 1 hour
- Green - Meeting starts in more than 1 hour
- Event cards show: Title, start time, duration, location (or attendee count)
- Time until: Badge displaying "in 2h", "in 15m", or "now"
- Quick access: Click any event card to open it in Google Calendar
2. "My Calls" Filtering
The Dashboard includes a powerful filtering feature based on calendar integration:
How "My Calls" Works
Convo matches your conversation history to calendar events you organized:
- Convo compares conversation start times with calendar event times
- Allows 15-minute buffer for late starts or early joins
- Checks if you're the organizer (creator) of the matched event
- Filters to show only meetings you organized
Switching views:
- All Calls - Shows every conversation, regardless of calendar connection
- My Calls - Shows only conversations from meetings you created in Google Calendar
Example: You attend 10 meetings this week. You organized 4 of them. "All Calls" shows all 10 conversations. "My Calls" shows only the 4 meetings you created.
3. Automatic Event Matching
Convo automatically links conversations to calendar events when:
- The conversation start time overlaps with a calendar event (±15 minutes)
- You were a participant in the calendar event
- The event was on your primary Google Calendar
This matching happens automatically—no manual linking required.
Managing Your Calendar Connection
Checking Connection Status
- Open Convo dashboard
- Click Settings → My Account
- Look for Google Workspace section
- If connected, you'll see a green dot and "Connected" text
- If disconnected, the button will say "Connect"
Disconnecting Calendar
You can revoke Convo's access to your calendar at any time:
- Open Settings → My Account → Google Workspace
- Click the Disconnect button
- Confirm disconnection
- Convo revokes access with Google and deletes stored tokens
- Calendar events disappear from Dashboard
- "My Calls" filter becomes unavailable
What Happens When You Disconnect
- Calendar events no longer appear in Dashboard
- "My Calls" tab shows empty state with prompt to reconnect
- Past conversation history remains intact (not deleted)
- You can reconnect at any time without losing data
- Convo completely removes stored calendar tokens
Reconnecting Calendar
If you disconnect and want to reconnect:
- Follow the same connection steps (Settings → My Account → Connect)
- Complete the OAuth flow again
- Calendar events reappear immediately
- "My Calls" filtering resumes
Privacy and Security
OAuth 2.0 Security
Convo uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 for authentication. Your Google password is never shared with Convo—Google handles all authentication directly.
Read-Only Access
Convo requests only the calendar.readonly scope. This means Convo can view your events but cannot create, modify, or delete anything on your calendar.
Token Storage
Calendar access tokens are stored securely in an encrypted database. Tokens are automatically refreshed before expiration and deleted immediately when you disconnect.
Data Usage
Calendar data is used only to display upcoming events and match conversations to meetings. Convo does not share your calendar data with third parties or use it for advertising.
Revoking Access
You can revoke Convo's calendar access in two ways:
- In Convo: Settings → My Account → Disconnect (recommended)
- In Google: myaccount.google.com/permissions → Remove Convo
Troubleshooting
Calendar connection fails
- Ensure you're signed into the correct Google account
- Check that you clicked "Allow" on the Google consent screen
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting
- Clear your browser cache and try again
- Ensure pop-ups aren't blocked in your browser
Events not showing in Dashboard
- Verify calendar is connected (green dot in Settings)
- Check that events exist in the next 24 hours on your primary calendar
- Restart the Convo app
- Disconnect and reconnect your calendar
- Ensure events are on your primary calendar (not a secondary or shared calendar)
"My Calls" is empty but I organized meetings
- Ensure your calendar is connected
- Check that you're the organizer (creator) of the calendar events
- Verify conversation times match calendar event times (within 15 minutes)
- Conversations must have been recorded—past unrecorded meetings won't appear
- The email in your Convo account must match your Google Calendar email
Wrong calendar account connected
- Disconnect current calendar in Settings
- Sign out of the wrong Google account in your browser
- Sign into the correct Google account
- Reconnect calendar in Convo Settings
- Verify the correct account during OAuth flow
Events from shared calendars not showing
Convo currently only syncs your primary Google Calendar. Events from:
- Shared calendars
- Secondary calendars you created
- Other people's calendars you have access to
These events will not appear in Convo. Contact ivan@itsconvo.com if you need multi-calendar support.
OAuth redirect not working
- Ensure Convo app is running during the OAuth flow
- Check that your browser allows redirects to
convopal:// URLs - Try using a different browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox)
- Restart Convo and try again
Limitations
Read-Only Access
Convo cannot create, edit, or delete calendar events. You must manage events directly in Google Calendar.
Primary Calendar Only
Only events from your primary Google Calendar are synced. Secondary or shared calendars are not currently supported.
No Real-Time Sync
Events are fetched when you open the Dashboard or refresh. Changes in Google Calendar may take a few minutes to appear in Convo.
Single Calendar Provider
You can only connect one calendar at a time. Connecting a new calendar replaces the previous connection.
Google Calendar Only
Microsoft Outlook and Apple Calendar are not currently supported. Contact support if you need these integrations.
