API Terms of Use

Last updated and effective date: 19 March 2026

These API Terms of Use ("API Terms") govern your access to and use of the Convo API. These API Terms supplement our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which also apply to your use of the API.

1. Definitions

  • "API" means the Convo application programming interface, available at /api/v1/ endpoints, including all associated documentation.
  • "API Key" means the unique authentication credential issued to you for accessing the API.
  • "Application" means any software, service, or integration you build using the API.
  • "Your Data" means the meeting transcripts, summaries, feedback, and other content accessible through the API under your account.

2. API Access and Authentication

Eligibility

  • API access requires a paid Convo subscription (Starter, Professional, or Enterprise)
  • Free-tier accounts do not have API access
  • By generating an API key, you accept these API Terms

API Key Security

  • Your API key is shown once upon creation and cannot be retrieved afterward. Store it securely.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs using your API key
  • Do not embed API keys in client-side code, public repositories, or any publicly accessible location
  • If you suspect your key has been compromised, revoke it immediately via your dashboard and generate a new one
  • Convo may revoke API keys that are suspected of being compromised or misused

3. Acceptable Use

You may use the API to:

  • Access and manage your own meeting data programmatically
  • Integrate Convo with your internal tools and workflows (CRM, project management, note-taking)
  • Build internal dashboards or reports using your meeting data
  • Automate workflows via third-party platforms (Zapier, Make.com, IFTTT)

You may NOT use the API to:

  • Build a product or service that competes with or replicates Convo's core functionality
  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense access to the API or the data obtained through it
  • Scrape, aggregate, or bulk-export data for purposes unrelated to your own account
  • Circumvent rate limits, usage quotas, or tier restrictions through any means
  • Access or attempt to access data belonging to other Convo users
  • Interfere with, degrade, or disrupt the API or its infrastructure
  • Use the API for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Share API keys between different organizations or unrelated entities

4. Rate Limits and Usage Quotas

  • AI generation requests beyond your monthly quota will be rejected until the next billing cycle
  • Convo reserves the right to adjust rate limits with reasonable notice
  • Persistent or deliberate circumvention of limits may result in API access suspension

5. Data Handling and Privacy

Your Responsibilities

  • You are the data controller for any data you access or process through the API
  • You must handle all data retrieved via the API in compliance with applicable privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • If you share meeting data with third-party services via the API, you are responsible for ensuring those services comply with applicable data protection requirements
  • You must inform meeting participants if their data will be accessed or processed via the API by external systems

Meeting Data Sensitivity

  • Meeting transcripts and recordings may contain confidential business information, personal data, and sensitive discussions
  • You must implement appropriate security measures when storing or transmitting data obtained through the API
  • Do not store API-retrieved data in unsecured locations or transmit it over unencrypted connections

AI-Generated Content

  • AI endpoints (keypoints, feedback, query, email generation) produce AI-generated content using third-party AI services (OpenAI)
  • AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes and may contain inaccuracies
  • You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated content before relying on it or sharing it with others
  • Convo does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated outputs

Webhooks and Third-Party Data Transmission

  • Webhooks and integrations (including Zapier and Make.com) transmit your meeting data to external URLs and services that you configure
  • You are solely responsible for the security and privacy practices of any third-party service that receives data via webhooks or integrations
  • Convo is not responsible for how third-party services store, process, or share data once it leaves our platform
  • You must ensure that any third-party service you connect complies with applicable data protection laws and your obligations to meeting participants

6. Intellectual Property

  • You retain ownership of Your Data accessed through the API
  • The API, its design, documentation, and all associated technology remain the intellectual property of Convo
  • You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the API
  • You may reference that your Application integrates with Convo, but may not use the Convo name, logo, or brand in a way that suggests endorsement or partnership without prior written consent

7. API Availability

  • Convo strives to maintain high API availability but does not guarantee uninterrupted access
  • The API may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control
  • We will make reasonable efforts to communicate planned downtime in advance
  • Your Application should handle API errors and unavailability gracefully
  • No service-level agreement (SLA) is provided unless separately agreed in writing for Enterprise customers

8. API Versioning and Changes

  • The API is versioned (currently v1). Breaking changes will be introduced in new API versions.
  • We may add new endpoints, fields, or features to existing versions without notice (backward-compatible changes)
  • Deprecated endpoints or versions will be announced at least 90 days before removal
  • Your Application should be designed to tolerate the addition of new fields in API responses

9. Suspension and Termination

By You

  • You may stop using the API and revoke your API keys at any time via your dashboard
  • Revoking all API keys does not cancel your Convo subscription

By Convo

We may suspend or revoke your API access immediately if you:

  • Violate these API Terms or our general Terms of Service
  • Engage in activity that threatens the security, integrity, or availability of the API
  • Persistently exceed rate limits or attempt to circumvent usage restrictions
  • Use the API in a way that negatively impacts other Convo users
  • Downgrade to the free tier or allow your subscription to lapse

Effect of Termination

  • All API keys will be revoked and API access will cease immediately
  • Any active webhook subscriptions will be deactivated
  • Your underlying Convo account and data are not affected by API termination alone (see general Terms of Service)

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

API Disclaimers

  • The API is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
  • We do not warrant that the API will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of AI-generated content returned by the API

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • Convo's total liability for any claims arising from your use of the API is limited to the fees you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim
  • Convo is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the API, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or business opportunities
  • Convo is not liable for any damages arising from your Application's reliance on the API, including damages caused by API unavailability, errors in API responses, or inaccuracies in AI-generated content

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Convo harmless from any claims, losses, or damages arising from:

  • Your use of the API in violation of these API Terms
  • Your Application's handling of data obtained through the API
  • Your failure to comply with applicable data protection laws when processing data via the API
  • Any third party's use of your API key, whether authorized or not
